Is There Anyone Out There?

I have seen many of my fellow house bloggers come and go...Even Greg, from the Petch House, I see,  has wrapped it up.  I'm not sure what has happened to many of them.  And if any of the "old-timers" are reading this, please let me know what's going on....

I'm not judging anyone who has decided this life isn't for them.   I've had my doubts too:  Has it been worth it?  Has the time and money somehow turned into what I hoped when I first started more than 16 years ago?

Sometimes, the answer is "no."  I often fantasize about selling, and buying a "tiny" house--and using the capital from the sale to help fund other, more fun, more exciting, and less difficult endeavors.  But this house has become something much more than a home.  It has become an identity, a statement of the importance of preserving our past, and a lesson to my children that anything is possible if you put your mind to it.  If I sold it now, I would be selling my soul.

When I look at the home I see my mistakes, my challenges, my willingness to finish.  And although I am not done (I need to finish the garage, repaint,  and complete some landscaping details), I am starting to be able to sit back, have a gin and tonic on a Summer evening, and enjoy the home for what it is--a comfortable place with stories, heart, and a sense of place.

This is our home.
